LOBB NEWS
Winter Work 2009/10
As always a lot of work has taken place in the winter months and I hope that you will all notice the difference.
Proposed increase in VAT to 20%, but not for Lobb Fields
As all our friends will be aware the government is proposing to increase VAT from 17.5% to 20% next year. Lobb Fields is well aware of the difficult times that lie ahead for all of us.
Naturally certain prices will need to increase in order to keep in line with inflation. However the Directors have had a long and hard look at the company’s finances for the coming year. We believe that everyone needs holidays and we have now made provisions to absorb the VAT increase within the company. We hope this action of ours will make a bit of difference to our friends and we look forward to happy and sunny (!) holidays for you all in 2011.
Internet facilities,The Ark
Our Internet facilities will again be available for our customers.
The Weather at Lobb Fields
We ask all our friends to please read this as again several did not come this Easter because of the poor forecast. Like12 months ago we again had a good Easter this year; overall it was sunny with a cool breeze although there was rain on Saturday afternoon. If you do have doubts about the weather do please give us a ring first and we will tell you what we honestly think. We did discuss the likely weather on the Wednesday before Easter and we all thought the forecast was pessimistic. We may not always be right but I think we will be better than many of the experts!
As you may be aware this area of North Devon, to be more accurate a two mile wide strip running from Westward Ho! to llfracombe, has its own micro climate; if you look at the rainfall map of the British Isles you will notice that this little area has the same rainfall as parts of East Anglia. We will normally have a fine day at Lobb when showers are predicted for the West Country.
Arrivals at busy times
Whilst our new computerised system has much improved the rate of booking in during busy times we have been giving a lot of thought to speed up access by our clients onto their pitches. This is not possible to achieve as some work has to be done to prepare the pitches for the new arrivals. However we have devised a system whereby those arriving early can book in and then temporarily park their caravans until their pitch is ready. Thus they will then be able to go away to the beach, or wherever they want, and return later during the day to move onto their pitch. Naturally if the pitch is free when they arrive they will be able to move straight on. We will see how it works and if need be do some fine tuning
Facebook
When we sent round our new brochure in January we mentioned in the accompanying letter that we were thinking of starting a Lobb Facebook. Well Ruth Simkins has already put one together under the name of ‘I love Lobb Fields’ which she has kindly agreed that we may use. So if anyone would like to join simply log on to Facebook and do a search for 'I love Lobb Fields'
One of the reasons we are setting one up is for you to utilise it as a quick decision-making process for last minute visits of friends to Lobb when good surf and sunshine look likely. If it is helpful Chris is more that happy to put up at regular intervals the state of the surf and weather. She can also help with pitch availability.
Anyway do join and give it a try; also if you have any other ideas as to how we might use it in a better and more useful way please let us know. |
